Meet the Designer
Fu-Tung Cheng is one of today's foremost thinkers in the field of design. He is a designer, best-selling author, and speaker, known internationally for his sophisticated design and innovative use of materials in the home. An expert on residential, commercial and product design, he speaks to trade and consumer audiences on the importance of timeless design, balancing luxury and conscience, and how craftsmanship informs design.
Cheng's keynotes and motivational talks have been sought out by leading trade organizations including the American Institute of Architects, the International Builders Show, and the National Kitchen and Bath Association.
Cheng is the recipient of more than 20 awards for his leadership, creativity and innovation including the 2009 Builder's Choice Design and Planning Award, 2008 AIA East Bay Exceptional Residential Design, 1998 Architectural Record "Record Houses" award, an International Interior Designers Association award for commercial design, a Sunset magazine/AIA Western Home Award, an ASID Interior Design Specialty Award and two Sub-Zero Kitchen Design Competitions. He has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of the National Kitchen & Bath Association and named one of the top 50 most influential figures in 50 years by Kitchen & Bath Business magazine.
He has been featured in national broadcast and print media such as CNN, HGTV, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Times, and Fortune Small Business. His work has been featured in dozens of design books including GA Houses, and the bestselling Not So Big House series by Sarah Susanka. Cheng heads three companies in Berkeley, Calif.: Cheng Design, Cheng Products and Cheng Concrete. He is the author of three books published by the Taunton Press, which combined have sold a quarter million copies. His latest book Concrete Countertops Made Simple has been hailed by the media for bringing high design to a mass audience. |
